The round 1 of the Pirelli Malaysia Superbike Championship was held at the Sepang Circuit South (2.609 kms) between 17-19 March 2017.
Six Indian Riders took part in the above Championship in various categories.
Indian expert rider Rajini Krishnan of Team Chia PJ Kawasaki, astride Kawasaki ZX10R took part in the Superbike Category. He qualified 3rd out of 13 riders. Both in Race 1 and Race 2 Rajini finished on the Podium. In Race 1, he finished 2nd and in Race 2 he finished 3rd. Rajini dedicated his 2nd place podium to his fellow racer Ashwin Sundar who died in a fatal accident on 18th March. He said “It’s a sad day for the motorsports as we lost one of our elite fellow racer Ashwin in a fatal road accident early this morning!!!! I dedicate my 2nd place podium finish today in Race 1 of Pirelli Malaysia Superbike Championship 2017 Round 1 to him. RIP my friend this one’s for you……”In the Supersport category, two Indian riders viz. Udipta Kumar and Abhijit Prasad took part. Udipta Kumar (ARD Performance Motorsports) was riding the Suzuki GXSR 600 and qualified 12th. He did not finish Race 1 and finidhed 13th in Race 2. Abhijith Prasad (Chia PJ Kawasaki) riding Kawasaki SX6R finished sixth in Race 1 but did not finish Race 2.
Sandesh Prasannakumar (Chia PJ Kawasaki) astride Kawasaki ZX10RR qualified in 13th position, finished 10th and 9th in Race 1 and 2 respective. He took part in the Superstock category.
In the Open 250 class, Dinesh Kumar Devadoss from Team R.A.C.R. astride Kawasaki 250 qualified 9th out of 17 riders. He finished 9th in Race 1 and a creditable podium (2nd place) in Race 2. Vishwadev M of Chia PJ Kawasaki riding Kawasaki 250, qualified 6th, finished Race 1 in 4th position. He was DNF in Race 2.
